The Great Digital Debate – Is Pharma Marketing Evil?

This past winter I was invited to be a panelist at the DTC Perspectives Digital Conference. The topic seemed benign enough — how should healthcare marketers use digital to appropriately communicate with consumers?

Then I found out who the other panelists were: Professor Lewis Glinert of Dartmouth, who had recently published a study that concluded that prescription drug websites poorly communicate information to consumers; and Jeff Chester of the Center for Digital Democracy. His organization was feverishly preparing a complaint to the FTC charging pharma advertisers with gathering info about online health consumers in a manner that is ‘unfair and deceptive’.

This was gonna be…interesting. Check out the fiery highlights from the debate below. What do you think? Add your voice to the debate here or message me directly!

By the way, I’m going to be at the ePharma Summit on February 8th taking part in their Annual Thought Leader Panel: Trends and Opportunities in Pharma Digital Marketing. I get to speak on my favorite topic: innovation! I’ve got some ‘next new’ stuff to share, so I hope you’ll join me.
